WCHS is always looking for more folks all ages, including juniors 12 to 17, interested in joining our volunteer family. You don’t have to be directly involved with the animals to help save lives. Some of our programs, events, and fundraisers include…

- Pet Therapy Visits to Wallowa Senior Living and Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. Alpine House in Joseph and Wallowa Riverhouse in Wallowa.

- Making phone calls from home
- Fostering cats, dogs, and other animals in need

Monthly Volunteer Meetings to stay connected
At this time, we are looking for an adult to be our Junior Volunteer Leader.

Help us trap feral cats and keep the kitty population down! We need a volunteer or two to help trap and transport feral cats, so they can be spayed. This is the best way to prevent unwanted kittens from ending up in shelters, or worse.
Do you have a spare Havaheart or similar humane trap that you can donate? All our traps are in use, and there are still plenty of feral cats out there. You can drop off your traps at the WCHS Info Center, 119 E. Main Street in Enterprise. We’re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Remember: A lost pet wearing a collar with a name and phone number has a much better chance of being returned to its home. Microchipping is a safe procedure. Pets react to insertion of a microchip about the same as they would to a typical vaccination. Microchipping will help to identify your pet no matter where it is found. Please see your veterinarian about microchipping your cat or dog.
Lots of kittens means we need to work hard at finding forever homes for the animals in foster care, in addition to running our Re-Tail Boutique center.

It has been an incredible opportunity to work with the community since we’ve been so visible. Together we have stepped up the Trap/Neuter/Release program since it began over 30 years ago. More lost “owners” have been reunited with their pets, and more people have come forward to volunteer, just to name a few wonderful things that have come our way since the Info Center opened in October 2014. We are continuing our efforts to establish a sanctuary in the future.
The Center is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., except holidays. Our Center Volunteer Coordinator has set up a schedule which is posted at the Center. All volunteers are asked to pick dates and times to work at the Center. Each volunteer will be partnered with an experienced volunteer to start. Without volunteers, there is no Wallowa County Humane Society. The animals and the people of Wallowa County will be helped by our efforts.
