The adoption process

Adopting a pet from the Wallowa County Humane Society is a rewarding experience. The main thing you need to know is that we are here to guide you through every step, ensuring a smooth transition for both you and your new companion. We'll provide you with detailed information on each animal's disposition and care requirements.

As part of the adoption process, the Wallowa County Humane Society Adoption Counselors will interview potential adopters. This step is designed to ensure that the fit is good for both adopters and the animal.

We ask for a pet adoption fee to help offset the costs of getting animals ready for adoption.  The fee is $65 for cats, $85 for kittens, $250 for dogs and puppies.  This includes:

•     All initial vaccinations

•     Rabies vaccinations for dogs

•     De-worming

•     Spay/neutering

•     Medical records

•    Five-day refund period:  if within 5 days a new pet shows signs of illness or other problems that occurred prior to the adoption, but was not showing symptoms at the time, it may be replaced at no additional fee, or a refund may be given.

We do not provide rabies vaccinations or leukemia tests for cats.  We always recommend a visit to the vet soon after adoption.

To avoid any misunderstandings between tenants and landlords, if you are renting your home, we will need to contact your landlord for confirmation of their pet policy. We want everyone, pets and people, to enjoy their life together.
