Giving up your pet is one of the most difficult decisions that an owner can make. We can help to guide your decision and assist with re-homing your pet.
When you need to give up your pet
There are many reasons why an owner has to consider giving up a pet. It is a difficult decision and we can help guide you in making the right choice. If you do decide that you have to give up your pet, please call Carol at 541-398-8586. We will try to find a foster home for your pet until it can be adopted. However, it may be necessary for you to keep your pet until we can find a foster home or a forever home. The Wallowa County Humane Society can only take animals when one of our foster homes has an opening.
Assistance with re-homing
We offer free Private Adoption listings on our website. You provide a good photo of your pet together with a description that helps potential adopters learn about your pet. The description should include: age, sex, spayed or neutered, vaccinations, personality, and any other information that is important. Include your phone number as the adoption does not go through the Wallowa County Humane Society. Send the information to us by email at: info@wallowacountyhumanesociety.org.
DO NOT post the animal for FREE. Charge a re-homing fee, even if it is small. We suggest charging at least $25. There are unscrupulous people who look at ads for free pets, especially puppies, cats, kittens and small dogs and pit bulls for fighting or selling to laboratories.

We strongly advise against listing a pet on Craig's list. There have been many stories in the news about people who have listed their pets on Craig’s List and found out later that their animals were sold to laboratories, abused, or even tortured and killed. Please do not let your beloved pet or innocent puppy or kitten become a victim. Contact us as we are here to help you and your pets.
